Dancer, director of dance groups

Born 15 July 1962 in the Krāslava District. He acquired his basic skills in folk dancing during his school years, dancing in the Dagda Cultural Centre’s Dagda folk-dance ensemble (1978–1980).

Improved his skills by dancing in the Liesma (Flame) folk-dance ensemble led by Imants Magone. Obtained his professional education at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian State Conservatoire, Faculty of Cultural Education, specialisation in dance (1983–1988). During his studies, he gained experience in the Daile (Beauty) State dance ensemble under Uldis Žagata (1985–1987), and worked as an assistant to Magone, artistic director of the Sprigulītis (Little Flail) ensemble (1977–1982), then as its artistic director (1982–1984).

Author of many original dances and folk-dance arrangements. His choreographies are danced at concerts and Dance Celebrations, as well as having won prizes at competitions – at the 9th Latvian Song Festival in Canada (1991), his dance Laudonietis, performed by Sprigulītis, takes first prize.
